Place of assignment: Frankfurt, Germany

Organisation: Deutsch-Indische Zusammenarbeit e.V.

Neha Sulthana from India did a voluntary service in Frankfurt, Germany after completing her Bachelor's degree in India.

I am Neha Sulthana from India and I would like to share some beautiful moments of my journey being a weltwärts volunteer from January 2019 to October 2020. After I finished my bachelor studies in India, I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to come to Germany and had a great experience working with children while getting to know a new culture and environment.

My start in Frankfurt

I was warmly welcomed by my host organization Deutsch-Indische Zusammenarbeit e.V. with lots of love and smiling faces. It was already a pleasant feeling to be here in Frankfurt. I was really amazed by the beautiful skyscrapers: Frankfurt is considered the most dynamic and international city combining tradition and modernity, which I found quite interesting.

The best part of my volunteering was my work. I was working in a kinder garden in Frankfurt and actually found something I was passionate about. I always enjoyed working with children: drawing, playing, learning, painting,…doing these things with children and helping the little ones were some of the tasks assigned to me.

A collage made from photos of the children.
We did some craft work, wherein we paired up small kids with the elder ones.
Several self-made and decorated paper hearts with the children's names.
Together with the children, we made gifts for their parents.

I have made thousands of memories travelling around Europe. I visited places that I wanted to. It has been an amazing time living a life and a dream I had always wished for.

I experienced a lot of growth and self-improvement and I feel more independent and open now. There were many interesting seminars conducted during my voluntary service. Furthermore, it has been a great experience getting to know different cultures and different kinds of people. This way, it has always been a learning journey.

Seminars have been a great learning experience and an opportunity to meet new people.

My free time

In my free time, I did different kind of things: I enjoyed sketching and doing henna tattoo designs or spent time dancing and walking around the streets while exploring my environment. In addition, I did some stretching exercises to keep myself healthy and flexible, spent time with friends, enjoyed cooking or spent time practicing my German.
