The public reports on the 2019 volunteer surveys can be found online now. As in the period from 2013 to 2018, volunteers from Germany were invited to take part in the survey. This year, the survey looked at the volunteers who returned from service in 2019. However, for the first time, international volunteers who went on assignment in Germany through the South-North component were also invited to participate.
The reports for both surveys reveal a high overall level of volunteer satisfaction with their time on the programme. 1,952 North-South volunteers completed this year’s survey and 94% of them were satisfied with their voluntary service, corroborating the previous years’ positive results.
The findings of the first South-North report were similarly positive overall. 97% of these respondents were satisfied with their voluntary service in Germany. Of the more than 600 volunteers from the Global South who were on assignment in Germany in 2019, 243 took part in the survey.
Aspects covered included the preparation given for voluntary service, the accompanying seminars, their stay in the host country, follow-up activities and post-assignment volunteering.
The volunteer surveys help ensure the programme constantly evolves as a development learning and exchange service for the volunteers and the participating organisations.
