Partners discuss inclusive volunteer service
The workshop documents are now available
As part of the project "weltwärts all-inclusive", three partner workshops were held in Mexico, India and Ghana from 2012 to 2014. The documents from these workshops summarising the key results and discussions are now available in German, English, French and Spanish. They are intended to contribute to the expansion of an inclusive volunteer service.
Organisations open to the participation of volunteers with or without disability met at the partner workshops. Many came from the sector of working with people with disabilities or were self-advocacy organisations. They discussed opportunities and barriers for volunteers with disabilities and identified legal, financial, information-related and organisational obstacles within the weltwärts programme. They developed indices for inclusive structures and practices for the selection, allocation, preparation and support of volunteers. As well as that, they made suggestions for the weltwärts programme.
"weltwärts all-inclusive" is a project of Behinderung und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit e.V. (the disability and development cooperation) (bezev). bezev stands for the equal participation of people with disabilities in development processes. This pilot project should promote the inclusion of young people with disabilities in weltwärts. The project is financed by the Stiftung Wohlfahrtspflege NRW (social welfare foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia).
